Professor Jacobson fulfilled my expectations for the spring 2022 English Writing for Engineers course because her expert delivery was insightful. As an engineering student, I have experienced several English courses throughout my time as a student undergraduate, which prepared me for such an intense course as 21007. The course objective in this course is practical in aiding my development in writing as an electrical engineer. The first  Self-reflection assessment paper was not easy for me to do because it required me to be honest with myself. Often, I have noticed that I am hard on myself to the point where I’m stuck in that moment. Later after receiving an approval grade, I’m able to refocus on the following topic. Writing is something in life that will always need to be improved upon by constantly practicing purpose and revision.

In my opinion, the lab report analysis assignment was the beginning of the learning curve that increased at an exponential rate: this assignment required using various library resources and online databases. The research required me to search through numerous library databases to find two appropriate lab reports to analyze. I struggled with time management because I was meticulous in the research process. During the analytical process, I have experience annotating to create a stance in my research at Queensborough Community College; however, I had to constantly covert my handwritten annotation. I also had to learn how to create a digital annotation to be concise in this research process. The final process of choosing the present lab report was easy because I had evidence to support my claims. Due to poor time management, I missed the deadline to get constructive criticism from my professors. I had feedback to remove the title when stating a claim because of the length of both titles. My professors preferred that I include the title in my final draft paper. I should have trusted my writing because it conveys the most straightforward message.

The technical description assignment was my favorite because it allowed my creative side to shine. I enjoyed the peer review because I was able to see my classmates’ creativity through their work. Some of my classmate’s ideas inspired me to improve on my work. I used my peer work as the standard and found ways to improve my work. I did a lot of research for technical descriptions to have details.

The Engineering proposal and presentation process experiences its highs and lows. The group was not in sync at the beginning of the process. However, the “Get it Done Crew” conquered a successful proposal in the end. I felt good that everyone was able to get it done on time. The challenges that we experienced with completing this assignment over spring break using google.doc, WhatsApp, and Zoom assisted us through the project. I have also experienced working with other groups in the past for proposals in Queensborough Community College. In my opinion, this topic will be practical to my field. In this project, I was able to allow/show my years of experience in the healthcare field and now integrate it with my technical background.

The digital portfolio was a neat way to create a digital resume of one’s coursework. This digital portfolio allows you to show off the hard work you did all semester, self-rewarding. Since this was my first attempt at creating a digital portfolio, it was highly stressful. I wasn’t sure the outcome of this project would be up to my standards due to the unfamiliarized with the interface. Thus, I noticed that I tend to shy away when unfamiliar with a subject matter. Instead of becoming overwhelmed with the big picture, I focus on smaller achievable goals to get the result.

My experience in this writing class has allowed me to improve my grammar, sentence structure, and research skills. Also, I learned new databases and interfaces. These skills are invaluable to my engineering portfolio. I am confident in knowing my audience and purpose for creating any technical document. I believe this class will also equip me to land my dream summer internship.
